High net worth divorce

From amicable, uncontested filings to complex high-asset litigation, we protect what you've built and plan for what comes next.

On Long Island, many people have accumulated significant assets during their marriage. Many families elect not to divorce until the children are over the age of 18 which means that the marriage was of long duration and perhaps very financially complicated. When one or both parties to a divorce are considered to be of a high net worth, experienced attorneys to negotiate a deal or litigate are required.

The Law Offices of Seidner & Associates, P.C., has represented many high net worth clients with a cumulative value that is in the hundreds of millions of dollars. We have had to negotiate and litigate business interests, residential and commercial real estate, professional licenses, corporate matters, etc. as such are often largely or entirely marital property subject to equitable distribution in a divorce. In addition to determining family assets, our attorneys often must engage in activities to ascertain which party is entitled to what. We have also had to negotiate/litigate the validity of pre-and post-nuptual separation agreements. Valuations for affluent families may require involvement of experts, including appraisers, forensic accountants, and other professionals in addition to the attorney. We are ready for whatever we need to handle.

Our attorneys will assess every detail of our client’s financial life. We will guide clients toward an amicable resolution, if possible, or prepare for a complicated trial as needed. The Law Offices of Seidner & Associates, P.C. has relationships with many third parties who are often instrumental in helping us achieve our goals for our clients. We know that even a small error can have large consequences and there is no room for error. High Net Worth clients have many concerns that are unique to the issues involving substantial funds, including Trusts and Estates, etc. Because our firm regularly handles such matters, we are prepared for any situation.

A case like this

Divorce 2013

Halfway through trial, the husband settled.

Our client was the family's breadwinner. Midway through trial, our witness offered very damaging evidence, and Mr. Seidner was proving the husband had wasted marital assets. He settled to avoid several more days of trial.

The outcome

Our client obtained custody, child support and the house, and the husband waived maintenance.

How much will a divorce cost?

Each case is different and thus cost is extremely difficult to estimate. In general, the number and age of children involved, a couple’s financial and employment situation, the more assets a couple might have, and the length of the marriage can all have an impact on the cost of a divorce.

When couples are able to amicably decide potentially complicated issues like child custody, visitation, support for children and/or spouses, property division, etc., a case will demand less billable hours than one in which a judge is forced to decide the parties’ fate.

What is an uncontested divorce?

Couples may agree on matters like child custody and support, visitation and spousal maintenance. For these couples, uncontested divorce is the best route.

In New York, an uncontested divorce requires the filing of an “Uncontested Divorce Packet.” Our law firm can help you avoid costly delays or problems with filing by completing the necessary documents for you.
